Rancho Cucamonga Real Estate Market News: The Algorithm That Prices Your Home Admitted It Couldn’t
If you have ever typed your address into Zillow to see what your home is “worth,” this week’s news deserves 60 seconds.
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Zillow’s appeal of a 2021 investor lawsuit over its failed home-flipping business, Zillow Offers. The case now moves toward trial in federal court.
The backstory is the part that matters to homeowners. In November 2021, Zillow permanently shut down Zillow Offers after admitting its own models could not accurately forecast future home prices. That admission came with a $300 million writedown and a layoff of 25% of its workforce.
An algorithm prices the average. Your home is not the average.
